# Lettros

> Free browser word game by Super Labs. Guess the hidden five-letter word in

## Rules

Guess a five-letter word in six tries. Every guess must be a real word. After
each guess the tiles change colour:

- green — right letter, right place
- yellow — right letter, wrong place
- grey — the letter isn't in the word at all

A repeated letter is only marked as many times as it actually occurs, so
guessing SPEED against ABIDE marks one E, not two.

Hard mode makes every revealed hint compulsory in later guesses; it can only
be turned on before the first guess of a board.

## Words

Answers are 2,600 common five-letter words; guesses are accepted from a much
wider 8,751-word list. Both are built offline from SCOWL (the English Speller
Database), ranked by corpus frequency, and shipped as static JSON — the game
never asks a server anything. See tools/wordgames/build-wordlists.mjs.
